“Sustainability is not a choice; it’s a necessity.” Every step we take today shapes the future we leave behind.
This statement echoes the essence of Sustainability Development Goal (SDG) 13—Climate Action— a global call to act decisively in combating climate change and its impacts. At FSDH, we take this call seriously, which is why Sustainability Week 2024 was dedicated to inspiring action, sparking conversations, and making meaningful contributions toward a greener future.
This year’s theme, “Paving the Way for a Sustainable Future,” guided a lineup of activities designed to engage, educate, and empower our employees and the wider community. It was a week that demonstrated the power of collective effort and reinforced the small, impactful changes we can make to protect our planet.
One of the week’s standout events was the Odunlami Community Clean-Up, held in partnership with the Ministry of Environment. Team members came together, gloves on and bags in hand, to clean up and beautify the area. It wasn’t just about removing litter— it was about setting an example and showing that simple actions can create a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.
Another impactful initiative was the Pledge Wall, where employees and members of our immediate community made personal commitments to sustainability. From pledging to reduce single-use plastics to promises of planting trees or conserving energy, the wall became a powerful visual reminder that everyone has a role to play in building a sustainable future.
To close out the week, we had an interactive Knowledge Sharing Session, where employees discussed practical tips for sustainable living and working. The session highlighted simple actions— like reducing paper use and managing energy more efficiently— that can be adopted in everyday life to make a meaningful impact.
Speaking on the significance of the week, the Chairman of the Sustainability Committee, Mr. Babatunde Obidare, said:
“Sustainability Week was born out of the need to create a culture of mindfulness and responsibility toward the environment. At FSDH, we understand that every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger impact. This week has been about showing that sustainability is not just a corporate goal— it’s a personal commitment we all need to make.”
Our MD/CEO, Mrs. Bukola Smith, also spoke on the success of the week, saying:
“Sustainability Week has been an opportunity to reflect on the role we each play in building a better future. The enthusiasm and dedication from every member of the FSDH team this week has been nothing short of remarkable. Together, we’re proving that small steps lead to big changes, and I am excited to see how we can keep this momentum going year-round.”
Sustainability isn’t about making massive changes overnight— it’s about consistently making small, thoughtful decisions. Turning off lights when not in use, reducing waste, and being mindful of how we consume resources are habits that collectively make a big impact.
As Sustainability Week wraps up, our commitment doesn’t end here. We’re motivated to carry this energy forward, both as individuals and as a team. We’re proud of what we achieved during Sustainability Week and even more excited about the possibilities ahead.
